The disappointed clerics withdrew, pondering on their next target and the veracity of Bath’s claim. The Wife of Bath chuckled and re-imagined Mr Bath as a gallant. St Thopas’s antics with the giant came to mind.

The next day the Wife of Bath is temporarily shocked to find her husband has returned home from business in York and immediately washed his clothes. There they were swinging on the line. What could this mean??? The Summoner draws nearer, as does the Friar and the Pardoner, all sensing a lucrative opportunity. The Wife of Bath ruefully reflects on this particular version of the trinity.

and consequently was not able to elucidate or elaborate on the Wife of Bath’s question. She sighed again, knowing it would be a long sleepless night, but to cheer herself up she had a sneeky peek at the Friar’s diary. She found he had predicted his night ahead.

Perhaps tomorrow she would tackle the Pardoner instead, as the Friar was so unreliable. She carried on sewing and wondered as to the distance or difference between a Pardoner and a Friar?
