Submission day is here! And in company with increased levels of stress, but I have got everything in place, with a couple of small things to ‘mop up’, nothing insurmountable, however my Neon is playing up! Which is a little stressful, possibly something to do with the transformer overheating, perhaps more are needed? It will be resolved prior to the Private View on the 10th but it is these little glitches, these swerve balls that we get, that we have to deal with. Things can’t always run smoothly there’s always the possibility of things we have to react to, and instead of getting too stressed about it I am looking on it as a learning opportunity. I reacted quickly and two replacement transformers are being sent so I can swop the potentially faulty one. And if something happens with a future Neon work I will potentially know the answer to the problem and it can be resolved very quickly. So it is something like this which is an opportunity to learn something new.

I talked about this in my journal. One of the greatest things I have learned in this final year is that I can re-work something, I can react and re-visit work and respond to it in a new and perhaps more appropriate way. I re-worked the abstract ground to the Neon because I questioned the validity of the ground, the appropriateness of a bright coloured ground when I was going to incorporate Neon which has bright colour and light!  So it is that valuable lesson that I have learned this year, to reflect and adapt. Embrace what may be seen as a problem and instead see it as an opportunity to move forward through process.

I am really looking forward to submitting (in 2 hours’ time at 5pm) thanks to Dan Pryde-Jarman for the countdown we were all sent via our phones. So we can point the phone at folks and honestly say “yes, but time is running out!”   Not quite like ‘Independence Day’, but there is a build-up and hopefully not an anti-climax.

The show will open for the Private View and I’m very much looking forward to sharing my work and that of my peers, who have formed a very tight bond and family atmosphere, with my family and friends, celebrate the hard work paying off with such an amazing show. Perhaps have little drink and say cheers!
