‘A Ramsgate Bestiary’

I am having an exhibition of prints at the Pop-Up Gallery, The Broadway, Addington Street, Ramsgate, CT11 9JN (next door to Eats ‘n Beats Cafe)

Open daily from 10am – 6pm

26th October to 2nd November 2020

I am showing a series of limited edition prints on themes I have returned to time and again in my art practice.

Stories about wildlife, natural history, Ramsgate’s architectural heritage and natural coast, craft skills & reimagined projects.

Artwork has been selected from several ongoing & interrelated projects including ‘Tipping’s Tiny Zoo’, ‘Stories of stones’, ‘Ramsgate Debossed’ & ‘Illuminated Animals’.

‘Bestiaries, or ‘Books of beasts’, provide an account of the characteristics and habits of a variety of animals, both real and fantastical, together with their associated allegorical and moral lessons. This work is one of a number of lavishly illustrated bestiaries, which were produced in England during the early medieval period.

The Rochester Bestiary contains 55 images of birds and beasts, painted in gold and bright colours’. ‘The volume also contains a lapidary written in Anglo-Norman French, which details the properties and virtues of precious and semi-precious stones’. source The British Library –
