Join artist Jonathan Murphy for a guided tour of his new solo exhibition ‘Parterre’ at VOLT. Murphy will discuss his creative process and explain how the selection of work in the exhibition represents his approach to painting as a form of enquiry, and how making can be used a testing ground for research and exploration. The tour will be followed by a Q&A.

Jonathan Murphy is an artist based in Hastings whose practice is rooted in painting but spans into drawing, collage, and ceramics. He studied at the University of Bradford and the UCL Slade School of Fine Art and held a studio at Gasworks, London from 2012–2018. In 2017, he was artist in Residence at Pivô, São Paulo, Brazil.

In addition to his extensive practice as a painter, Murphy has curated numerous exhibitions and events. He has worked with a host of international artists such as Jose Damasceno, Tai Shani, Anthea Hamilton and Eddie Peake. He is the creator of the online platform Nada/Da, for which he has commissioned the work of over fifteen artists including Alexandre da Cunha, Celia Hempton, Adham Faramawy, Gili Tall and Lauren Godfrey.

He is currently the Senior Gallery Technician for Brighton CCA.
