blip

noun

1. An unexpected, minor, and typically temporary deviation from a general trend.

…blip – a space for art is a transient intervention made possible by Vacant Space; a programme by Axisweb enabling artists, creatives and projects to access empty commercial properties across the UK.

…blip will host a series of window installations viewable from the street.

…blip is a collaboration between North East Lincolnshire artists Ellie Collins and Marc Renshaw and London-based artist Tracey Payne.

For the purpose of Sweepings Ellie Collins wrote something in response to the word ‘Sweepings’ every day for 30 days during June and July this year.

Filtering everyday scenarios through the autonomous medium of writing has yielded artefacts with a ‘not quite’ quality. Forms loosely derived from brushes and accumulated detritus have undergone a significant permutation of form and a loss of function.

As with previous installations by Ellie Collins, Sweepings is installed on carpet. In this instance, futility is implied. Detritus sticks and catches in fibres and flicks off in unexpected ways. The job is never finished.

This show is a precursor to a forthcoming installation at The Art House, Wakefield in March/April 2018.
