Chongha Peter Lee works with the evolving effects of contemporary networked technologies on perception and its ramifications on political capacities. Works have a dual pronged approach to this research, mapping how organizations of enforcement produce images for both operational and self-representational purposes. Lee also produces novel misuses of technology, with a self-reflexive understanding of representational conventions, to uncover newly available capacities for political action. He works across media, producing audio/ video objects, interactive technologies and algorithmic processes.

The digital residencies provide an online space for artists to develop works, ideas and practices. Six residencies will take place online between October – January, with each selected artist having one month to complete a proposed project along the theme of: Media Archaeology/ Zombie Media. Media archaeologists have challenged the rejection of history by modern media culture and theory alike by pointing out unnoticed continuities and ruptures.

During his residency, Lee aims to execute several media-based interventions to dig into, excavate and manipulate the material and perceptual layers between contemporary image practices and military communities’ (both professionals and amateurs) appropriation of these image practices. He will produce and curate drawings, video, and text to highlight this miscegenation of perception and also chart his own entanglement within it.

Chongha Peter Lee is based in New York and Washington DC. Recent exhibitions include Deformes Biennale / Valdivia, Chile, SIGGRAPH Enhanced Vision / Los Angeles, and EAL / Bogota, Colombia.
