D’Artagnan is a celebration of bronze and the very process of casting. For Paul Bonomini, Alexandra Harley, Terry Jones and Steve Hodgson, bronze is not only a shared medium, but a source of collective passion. While the artists’ sculptures vary widely in style and concept, they are the result of an ongoing, collaborative practice of bronze casting together at a private foundry in Hertfordshire. A foundational material, bronze therefore forms the basis of close personal and professional relationships that inform and enliven the present show.

Each artwork featured in the exhibition is unique, created using the lost wax method. A technique that can be traced back over 6000 years, it entails pouring 1200°C molten metal into a mould before leaving the bronze to cool slowly overnight, followed by a lengthy process of cleaning, patination, polishing, and at last, display.
