Hieronymus Bosch (1450-1516) was a Dutch artist celebrated for the intense humanity and fantastical imagery portrayed in his paintings. Borrowing its title from Bosch’s most acclaimed work, Garden of Earthly Delights is an ambitious multi-media exhibition to be in a vast, disused building in the historic area of Cardiff Bay.
500 years on, Hieronymus Bosch remains one of the world’s most fascinating artists. A captivating enigma, his works have elicited a wide range of scholarly interpretations, and his influence and inspiration is still felt today. Interpretations via symbolic systems based on alchemy, astrology, heresy, folklore, aesthetics, and psychoanalysis have all attempted to explain this rich and endlessly complex artwork and its bizarre imagery.
tactileBOSCH’s Garden of Earthly Delights will contribute to this rich corpus of interpretations and understandings. Presenting cheek by jowl the work of local, national and international artists from all stages of their careers,
This unique show promises a dizzying array of site-specific installation, video, painting, photography, sonic art, interdisciplinary collaborations and spontaneous interventions; a veritable gesamtkunstwerk, all kicked off with a wild night of live music, cabaret, spoken word and visceral performance art!
