Kim Walker presents a sound installation exploring the architectural forms surrounding hand-made sheds that pigeon fanciers build for their racing pigeons. Dookits or Doocots are structures constructed of wood or scrap metal and are used to house pigeons. Within Scotland there are structural remnants reflecting the traditions of rearing and keeping pigeons for racing and leisure. This tradition was prevalent in Europe and notably, within urban environments of Scotland. Gentler Passion was generously supported by the Scottish Sculpture Workshop’s (SSW) Winter Residency program 2013 and has been selected as part of Aberdeen City Council’s bid program for UK City of Culture 2017.
