Multi-Award Winning Laura I. Art Gallery is pleased to announce a new art exhibition, Globalisation: Exploring the I and You in an Era of Change, and opening on 28th October. This will be accessible online for all art lovers across the world.

Globalisation: Exploring the I and You in an Era of Change is a collaborative exhibition bringing together around 30 international artists in a visual celebration of different countries and disparate cultures.

The first of two group exhibitions scheduled for the autumn of 2021,GlobalisationExploring the I and You in an Era of Change reflects upon ideas of globalism and localism, exploring the concept of a “perfect” cosmopolitan society.

Based on the visual arts, the exhibition contains work from a global selection of artists whose practice is informed by their personal experience of the world.

Selected for the show is the work of British artist Teresa Wilson (born Elstree, 1965).  Wilson is known for her uncanny doll sculptures and room installations.  Made from deconstructed garments and mixed media, the dolls explore issues of abjection, displacement and isolation.

Mother of five, Teresa Wilson, started making the dolls in 2007 after returning to education to study art in her late thirties.   Her work continues on the path trodden by artists including Louise Bourgeois, Paula Rego and Kiki Smith, whose work looks into the abject and intimate areas of the artist’s inner torments and personal mythology.

As in the work of David Lynch and the sculpture dolls of outsider artist Michel Nedjar, the work has a dark macabre aspect which both attracts and disturbs the viewer. Wilson’s work stands alone for its otherworldly quality. The uncanniness of the narrative speaks to us of times long gone but which linger in our collective unconscious.  It is talking to the ‘outsider’ in all of us.

Laura I. Gallery looks forward to seeing you at the online event on 28 October. You are invited to join by using the Eventbrite link.
