Through layered drawings Helen seeks out the ephemeral qualities of urban environments to capture their constant state of flux and kinetic energy. She combines light, architecture, and drawing within an alternative photographic processes to morph light into the created image.

For this new video piece Helen is again looking at light, although this time she’s exploring a different kind of environment. She has used footage gathered from a series of early morning walks along the Swansea seafront, which have been layered together to depict a portrait of the Swansea bay. It is an amalgamation of Helen’s month long stay in Swansea during the winter/February of 2016.

Captivated by the hypnotic nature of the sea, this piece explores the small nuances that shift the mood of an environment. Going from a wild wind skimming the surface of the sand to the blinding reflection glistening on the water. These contrasts are again echoed in the idyllic yet rugged landscape and juxtapose the man-made geometric architecture of the steel and copper works found in the Swansea and South Wales area.
