Launching with a private viewing on Monday 21 March at the Foyer Restaurant & Gallery, Tim Winters presents ‘Japan Diary’ – an exhibition comprising a series of linocuts depicting scenes on Tokaido, the ancient route from Tokyo to Kyoto. Tim Winters’ work captures his own journey through ancient and modern Japan in 1989. It follows a five hundred-kilometre stretch of the Tokaido coast road, which is divided into 53 way stations. Tim, who was artist in residence at Peacock Visual Arts in 2008, explains: “The journey covers the route as it was back then – including thriving cities, old temples, compact villages, major fishing ports, highway stops, industrial centres, and villages squeezed into the hillsides with tea covered slopes.”
