Maundy Todd – will be introducing Claire Mc Dermott’s new sculpture and drawings of Michaelmas to the Merton Arts Trail which is in its first year, at 9 Parkside Avenue, SW19. Sarah-Jane Holden is the host and is exhibiting aboriginal paintings.
Claire Mc Dermott has exhibited at Tate Modern, Watford Museum, UCLH and Newton Farm Ecology Park and is a member of the Royal Society of Sculptors. She took the opportunity of travelling to CERN, Switzerland for lectures on physics making the connection with biophysics and spent plants. Chairman and founder of Art Grads; a group of 2020 CSM graduates who organised their own exhibition titled ‘FINALLY’ in 2021 where she showed the painting titled Meadow Coop and made the film titled EXTERMITY. Prior to studying at Central Saint Martins, Mc Dermott attended De Montfort University, Lincoln to study Design in Historic Decorative Crafts; woodcarving and surface decoration inspired by plant designs. She has exhibited at the Mall Galleries, The Independent Artist Fair, RHS London Botanical Show, Sculpture Symposium 2016 and funded by Arts Council England, Harrow Council and Harrow Nature Conservation Form. Her public sculpture title the Meeting Tree can be seen at Newton Farm Ecology Park and her botanical paintings are held at Crill Rialaig Arts Centre, Ireland.
