Each painting is an abstract space to fall into, get a little lost and remember.
The captured ships collection is a series of paintings made using pigments that are listed in the cargos of ships captured by privateers during the Anglo-Dutch Wars of the 16-1700s. The starting point for this project is research carried out in the National Archive. The period has resonance with the current period, being one of transition, violence and limited constraints on trade, and in particular a jostling for global dominance. The privateers were basically state sanctioned pirates.
