Artist and writer Richard Taylor is holding an ‘open reading’ event, to culminate his ECA/ESW Research Residency in Art Writing. With a view to provide space for art writers to rehearse their work by reading to an audience, the event will be a critical space for participants to gain feedback on ideas and a forum in which to edit work through speech and discussion in a live-setting.

ECA students who attended Taylor’s workshops on writing, editing and reading at ESW in April 2015, have been invited to read work during the event. Other readers have been invited from Claire Walsh’s ‘Edit-While-U-Wait’ workshop. Further readings of work, either by the author or a nominated performer, are welcome from audience members attending the event.

To conclude the event Taylor will present ‘blue farm, roundhouse, hlâw’, a performance developed during his residency, which uses voice and interval-timed projection to distort notions of etymology (the origin of words and their historical development) amongst an indexing of text written for collected images and photographed observations.

The event will be introduced by Maria Fusco, Senior Chancellor’s Fellow – Reader, Edinburgh College of Art, The University of Edinburgh.

To register interest as a reader for the event and for more information email Richard directly on [email protected] before Tuesday 12 May – limited slots are available and submissions will be taken on a first come first served basis.
