100 works from 88 artists will be exhibiting at the Bankside Gallery from 9th until 20th September 2009. The exhibition will be showing original works, the majority of which are for sale, from leading artists across the UK.The RWS/Sunday Times Watercolour Competition, now in its 22nd year, remains the largest open art prize dedicated solely to the celebration of the diversity and beauty of the watercolour medium. The competition offers one of the highest valued prizes in the United Kingdom by awarding a total of £22,500 to artists who demonstrate a high level of skill and creativity. The prizes, among others, include a first prize of £12,000, as well as the Young Artist Prize for those under 30 and a commission to create the cover art for a Penguin classic. Whether abstract, figurative or landscape, the popularity of the competition and the exemplary standard of work exhibited is testament to the importance of the role of watercolour in the contemporary arena.The exhibition will be on display at Bankside Gallery London SE1 9JH from 9 – 20 September 2009, 11am – 6pm daily, admission free.There will also be a series of workshops and discussions to coincide with theexhibition.
