KEEPING ART ALIVE IN CUMBRIA: Applications now open for an outdoor sculpture exhibition at Rydal Hall, Ambleside, Cumbria

The Covid 19 Lockdowns have played havoc with artists exhibiting their work. To this end, the Cumbria Sculptors Group www.cumbriasculptors.com in partnership with the Rydal Hall Estate www.Rydalhall.org is providing an opportunity for sculptors in Cumbria to participate in an outdoor exhibition in the beautiful Rydal Hall gardens. The exhibition will run from 1 May- 30 September 2021.

Rydal Hall is used as a conference and retreat centre and sits within a 40 acre estate of woodland, formal gardens and high waterfalls tumbling down a rocky ravine. It is located on the popular Coffin Track walk between Ambleside and Grasmere.  Artists have long been inspired by the historic Hall and the surrounding landscape.

The aim of this exhibition is to promote and showcase the breadth of contemporary sculpture in Cumbria and to complement and add to existing sculpture and installations on display on the estate. The exhibition will be advertised and promoted as widely as possible to stimulate interest and help generate visitor numbers.

Applications are invited from sculptors currently living in or with their workshop/studio in Cumbria to exhibit their work. This can be in any sculptural material in the form of existing pieces suitable for display outdoors, or by creating new site specific work in response to the surrounding natural environment. The latter will require written or visual design details submitted with the application form. This will be a selling exhibition, but experimental or temporary works are most welcome.

The submitted works will be reviewed and selected by the exhibition coordinators. Sculptors will be informed if their work has been selected by 31 March 2021, with further installation and exhibition details provided. A digital exhibition catalogue will be created hosted on the Cumbria Sculptors Group website.

The closing date for application is: 19 March 2021.
