New work by South African artist Peter Mammes, the work deals with contemporary ideas of politics. Peter has taken his drawings and made them into relief artworks as well as used unique new techniques using human ash as his medium.

The exhibition is a response to the extremes of today’s
extraordinary politics, using his trademark symbols of authority
figures like soldiers, punishment, deformity and bandages –
representing a covering up of wrongs – to express his
disillusionment with the world’s governments and to draw
parallels between the First World War and today’s COVID-19
impacted world.

“My drawings of authority figures, medical preparations and
naked, bound and vulnerable people express my disillusionment
in all governments and authority, which I believe many others
share due to the COVID-19 situation.”
