This month, to celebrate the summer and our beautiful surroundings, we’re taking a trip out to Ashburnham Place to visit Felicity Truscott and celebrate her project there, Revolution and Resonance. Some of you may remember Felicity talking to us about the project in January when she had just received confirmation of her funding; now’s the chance to find out how it all worked out.
Revolution and Resonance explores the transformation of a 2 dimensional drawing into a 3-dimensional form. This form made of oak strips 6m long and 4mm thick drifts across the surface of Broadwater Lake, Ashburnham Place, Battle vulnerable to the influence of the elements. ‘Drawn’ within it’s woven construction is the distillation of experience.
After working onsite at Ashburnham Place during a residency in 2015 Felicity put forward a proposal and gained support from Arts Council England, East Sussex Arts Partnership, local business Keeley Engineering and from Ashburhman Place as project partner to enable her to make this work. The project has resonance with the artist’s preoccupation with the wind circulating around Broadwater lake at Ashburnham Place near Battle, rapidly transforming the surface of the water. The experience of being in a peaceful Capability Brown designed landscape contrasted with the continuous interruption of nature inspired this mobile version of a line drawing.
On June 13 from 4 – 5pm we will be joining Felicity for boat trips to view the work, followed by a workshop from 5 – 6pm making flat band cane structures as part of a collaborative artwork. The workshop will be followed from 6pm by fire pit, music and BBQ. What a great afternoon out! The event is all free but we will offer donations to Ashburnham College.
