These images were collected as part of a project based on the sea and related to my interest in solo navigation. The low quality photographs found inside sticks of seaside rock are largely overlooked. They show a tranquil, dated view and give a dishonest representation of British seaside resorts. In the 1968 Sunday Times Golden Globe Race to be the first person to sail solo around the world, the single-hander Donald Crowhurst was a largely overlooked competitor. He set sail from Teignmouth in Devon and attempted to fake his coordinates in order to win the race, while in actual fact he was drifting for months in the southern Atlantic Ocean. The weight of his deception and the loneliness drove Crowhurst insane and he is thought to have jumped over board when his boat, Teignmouth Electron, was found drifting in the
