Barbed wire, roses, single mother, trapped, tree of life.

This work is a narrative of my sexual activity and relationships from the age of 16 until I was 49 years old. The story is told through the graffiti carvings on my tree of life, leading to my personal trap as a bird of paradise incarcerated in a cage. My children are cheery chirping fledglings roosting on the branches out with the cage. Framed by barbed wire and dead roses. A thorny depiction of a single mother state of mind in today’s society.

Graphite, and pastel on paper, wire, dead roses and wire [120 x 185cm]
