This year’s Platform Graduate Award, now in its third year, has been awarded to Sophie Dixon, a recent graduate of the University of Kent. She will receive a £2500 award and a year of mentoring from an experienced art professional.

Organised by CVAN SE (Contemporary Visual Arts Network, South East), the winner was chosen from a shortlist of five artists which also included Izabela Brudkiewicz, Holger Kilumets, Samuel Lloyd and Rachael Minott.

Dixon was nominated for the award by Turner Contemporary, Margate, one of five galleries in the South East of England involved in selecting recent graduates from the region’s art colleges. The work of 31 graduates from 16 universities and colleges have been exhibited across the participating galleries since August.

The winner was announced at aspex, Portsmouth. The other galleries involved in the award are De La Warr Pavilion, Bexhill; Modern Art Oxford; and MK Gallery, Milton Keynes.
