This Sunday 30 August sees a mass sale of artists’ work take place in the car park of Turner Contemporary in Margate, Kent.

The Art Car Boot Fair has been organised by sisters Karen Ashton and Helen Hayward, with support from Vauxhall Motors and Arts Council England. The pair ran their first car boot fair in London in 2004, with the aim of offering an alternative to the increasing commercialisation of London’s art scene. The most recent edition of the annual London event took place in June.

It’s not often you can buy a Tracey Emin work straight out the back of her car. But that’s exactly what visitors can do at the event. Bargains will also be available from other high-profile artists, including: Sir Peter Blake, Gavin Turk, Rachel Wilberforce, Vic Reeves and Michael Hogben, Rachel Howard, True Rocks, Matt Collishaw, Polly Morgan and Holly Allan.

In addition to the main event, there will be a host of other activities across Margate over the bank holiday weekend. Art installations, live music, film screenings, Kent Pride in the streets and a raft of art activities for both children and adults will be on offer.
