engage summer school in Northern Ireland: June Nelson reports back
Artist-educator June Nelson will be sharing her experiences from this year’s engage Summer School at an event led by Blue Monkey Network. Nelson will introduce some of the ideas raised during the Northern Ireland workshop’s discussions around ‘The distinctive role of artists in arts education and participatory practice’. A highlight of the event will be Nelson’s overview of the artist-led organisations and spaces that she encountered during her stay in Belfast.

A Table of Elements
Exploring the properties of water and our relationship to it, both biologically and metaphorically, this exhibition by Joanna Jones, Helen Lindon and Clare Smith forms part of a new festival, SALT. Co-curated by Folkestone Quarterhouse, Folkestone Fringe and Karen Shepherdson of Canterbury Christ Church University, SALT: Sea & The Environment Festival takes its influence and concerns from the coastal regions of Kent.

Brian Mercer Stone Residency exhibition
Alice Cunningham has spent three months in Pietrasanta, Italy, working with artisans at Studio Sem to develop her skills and knowledge of stone. This solo exhibition of her resulting marble sculptures combines a conceptual approach with a striking sense of materiality, form and traditional technique.

Once More with Feeling(s)
An evening of pastiche performance, video and sound dedicated to pop cover versions. Artists including Louise Ashcroft, Alberto Duman and Marco Godoy will playfully and politically warp and subvert major hits using humour, and quite possibly a touch of emotion.

Stephen Cripps’ Studio Award concluding event
For her studio residency at the High House Production Park, Rita Evans has been creating sound-based installations that encourage musical improvisation. Over the course of her residency they have become the centrepieces for live performances with multiple participants. As this studio period comes to an end she presents two of these changing structures (pictured top), built from materials found and scavenged on site and in the local area.
