60 works by 58 artists have been selected for this year’s Jerwood Drawing Prize exhibition which opens at the Jerwood Space, London, 16 September 2015.

Offering a first prize of £8,000, second prize of £5,000 and two student awards of £2,000 each, the prize promotes and celebrates the breadth of contemporary drawing practice within the UK. It has been running since 1994, and supported by the Jerwood Charitable Foundation for 15 years .

The selected artists are:

Speaking on behalf of the judging panel, which also included artists Dexter Dalwood and Salima Hashmi, art historian John-Paul Stonard said: “The Jerwood Drawing Prize is one of the most important art prizes in the UK, and unique for focusing on the medium of drawing.

“It was inspiring to see the range of entries, not only drawings in the traditional sense, but also drawing as a process seen through other media, including sculpture and video. The drawings selected were those that had the energy of a personal vision, and showed dedication to the medium.”

The winning artists will be announced at the preview on 15 September 2015. Following the exhibition at Jerwood Space (which continues to 25 October 2015), the prize will then tour to venues across the UK, including Cheltenham Art Gallery (21 November 2015 – 31 January 2016); Sidney Cooper Gallery, Canterbury (11 February – 9 April 2016); and Falmouth Art Gallery (23 April – 25 June 2016).
