Tabitha Moses has been announced as the winner of the sixth annual Liverpool Art Prize at a ceremony at the Grand Hall, Albert Dock, Liverpool.

The artist, who is based at Bridewell Studios in the city, wins £2000 and a show at The Walker Art Gallery during the ensuing 12 month period. Moses also won the People’s Choice Award, voted for by the public, for which she receives a further £1000.

The judges for this year’s prize were Sally Tallant (Director, Liverpool Biennial), Tim Etchells (multi-disciplinary artist), Laura Davis (Arts Editor, Liverpool Daily Post) and Robyn Woolston (artist and winner of Liverpool Art Prize 2012). Their decision was based on the artist’s presentation for the Liverpool Art Prize exhibition.

Moses’ work is concerned with ‘the tangible expression of human experience’ and she describes her subject matter as including ‘murder, bodies, skin and Blackpool’. She works with textiles to create sculptures and installations.

The three other shortlisted artists for this year’s prize were Royal Standard-based sculptor Kevin Hunt, fellow Royal Standard studio holder Laurence Payot – originally from Metz, France – and Julieann O’Malley, whose work encompasses live durational performance installations, video work, sound and photography.

The Liverpool Art Prize exhibition continues at The Grand Hall, Albert Dock, Liverpool until 8 June. liverpoolartprize.com
