The ongoing dispute between management and staff at the National Gallery in London will be discussed in the House of Commons today (25 June 2015). An adjournment debate will take place at 4pm.

The dispute, which centres on plans to privatise 400 of the 600 jobs at the gallery, has resulted in a series of strikes by members of the Public and Commercial Services union (PCS). The latest 10-day strike will end on Thursday 2 July.

The relationship between the PCS and National Gallery management hit a new low in May following the sacking of union rep Candy Udwin.

This August will see incoming National Gallery director Gabriele Finaldi take up his new role, replacing Nicholas Penny. The PCS has written to Finaldi to request a meeting with Finaldi prior to him starting the job.

PCS general secretary Mark Serwotka said: “This dispute and the sacking of our representative will be the first things across Gabriele Finaldi’s desk when he takes over, so we have asked to meet urgently to discuss how we can resolve the issues.”
