Susan Philipsz: Broken Ensemble: War Damaged Musical Instruments (brass section), Eastside Projects, Birmingham
This new installation by the 2010 Turner Prize winner features a musical ensemble of battered, bullet holed and broken instruments that haven’t been played for over a century. The focal point is new recordings of the sounds produced from five brass musical instruments damaged in Germany during various conflicts.

Shaunie Barton, Cornerhouse, Manchester
The beautiful drawings of recent graduate Shaunie Barton have to be seen first-hand to be fully appreciated. Drawn onto silk-screen prints subtly embossed with geometric shapes, the patterns that emerge resemble elaborate cellular arrangements and DNA imagery.

Echo Chamber, Zeitgeist Project Space, London
This exhibition features installation, painting, collage and film from three artists – Rosalind Davis, Michaela Nettell and Caroline Lambard. Mapping ideas in two and three dimensions, they explore the possibilities of existing materials and spaces, and their reconfiguration into new structures and forms.

Gregor Wright: Dinosaur Expert I’m Feeling Lucky, CCA, Glasgow
At first glance this exhibition by Glasgow-based artist Gregor Wright might come across as a bit of a mash-up of throwaway material. However, delve a little deeper and a multitude of layers begin to emerge. Science fiction narratives, early computer games, gambling culture… it’s all here beneath the abstract surfaces.

Fiona Banner: Wp Wp Wp, Yorkshire Sculpture Park, Wakefield
Banner returns to one of her common themes – the Chinook twin-engine helicopter. Here there is an additional element, namely a beautiful drawing installation constructed of the phrase ‘Wp Wp Wp’ (the sound made by the American aircraft, which is primarily used for troop movement). Emotive and beautiful work.
