Sigmar Polke, Tate Modern, London
Tate Modern’s latest blockbuster exhibition showcases a broad spectrum of work from Polke’s five decade-long career. There is much to see, including painting, drawing, photography, film and sculpture, plus notebooks, slide projections and photocopies. Relentlessly inventive, the show captures Polke’s wildly different approach to art-making.

Art:Language:Location, various locations, Cambridge
This intriguing exhibition takes place at various spots across Cambridge city centre. Fifty artists were asked to find a location for their work, with the result being unexpected encounters in which everyday interactions with text can be explored and challenged.

Unreliable Evidence, Warwick Arts Centre, Coventry
This exhibition examines the way that history is presented to us, in particular the fallibility of artistic documentation. The focal point is Edouard Manet’s The Execution of Maximilian, whilst other areas of the show explore the personal stories at the heart of violent events which are long lost.

Tom Hackett: Shaggy-Dog Stories, 20-21 Visual Arts Centre, Scunthorpe
This installation in the courtyard at 20-21 features 13 wheelbarrows containing yellow silicone rubber dogs. These unusual sculptural pieces will act as a catalyst for conversations sculptor Tom Hackett is collating and publishing in a free newspaper to coincide with the show.

Listening, BALTIC, Gateshead
Artist Sam Belinfante curates a pioneering exhibition that investigates the act of listening in contemporary art. This crossover between the visual and the sonic includes a variety of media from drawings and sculpture to prints and video. Artists include Ed Atkins, Haroon Mirza and Katie Paterson.
