Grit
Jane Boyer curates this group exhibition that considers the concept and nuances of the neutral, referencing a quote from Roland Barthes on how meaning changes according to the perception of each viewer. Here, subtle monochromatic pieces by four artists reveal singularity through the grittiness of mark-making.
Until 2 July 2016, Arthouse1 45 Grange Road, London SE1.

The Overview Effect
Henrietta Armstrong, Miranda Boulton, Fiona Grady, Hayley Harrison and Katya Kvasova each explore altered perspectives, transforming memories, reappropriating debris or using repetition to disorientate the viewer’s interpretation of the work. Borrowing the term ‘The Overview Effect’ from astronauts, the exhibitions seeks to draw a shared sensibility between the mind-changing views of earth from above and the cognitive shifts that art can bring about.
8-19 June 2016, Lewisham Art House, 140 Lewisham Way, London SE14.

Scour: The Hidden Landscapes of Forge Mill
Sculpturlogic (Keith Ashford and Elizabeth Turner) create new sculpture, video and sound work in response to the needle and fish hook industry of Redditch and Forge Mill’s extensive collection of these items. The work that is created for this unique place – the world’s only remaining working water-powered scouring mill – seeks to consider these industries within the wider history of its immediate landscape.
10 June – 3 July 2016, Forge Mill Needle Museum, Redditch, Worcestershire.
