Flora Bradwell is a London based artist and curator whose generously grotesque practice encompasses painting, sculpture, performance and installation. Flora completed her MFA at The Slade School of Fine Art in 2021, receiving the Felix Slade Award, The Jeanne Szego Prize and Sarabande Emerging Artist Bursary during her time there. This year Flora is a winner of the Gilbert Bayes Award, Artist in Residence at Vincent Van Gogh Huis, NL and received a-n Artist Bursary funding. A compulsion towards the carnivalesque and the desire to playfully rub the fantastical against the everyday drive Flora's practice. Compositions of frescoes, cult manifestoes and nursery rhymes are squeezed through a phantasmagorical filter to create bodily dripping worlds. Flora manifests hybrid creatures, that grimace like rides at a disused theme park serving equal measures of fun and menace. Flora's vibrant trashy work's recent outings include Lewisham Art House, Somers Gallery, Nunnery Gallery and Saatchi Gallery, London, Liminal Gallery, Margate, Future DMND, LA and Lisboa Social Press, Lisbon. Recent residencies include Elephant Lab, London, Cyprus College of Art, Paphos, and SIM, Reykjavik. Flora curates art happenings and exhibitions across the UK. This year she co-curated Full to Bursting at Staffordshire Street and Who Holds The Sword at Hypha Studios Stratford. Flora has also Co-Director of Bad Art since 2019. London
