Ruth is a cultural activist, practice-based researcher, and filmmaker. Cutting her teeth as an indie filmmaker and trained as a documentarist, Ruth started to develop work from inside communities in her mid-twenties, broadcasting character-led films based around people and their relationships with where they live, often places and lives under pressure. She established They Eat Culture in 2009 in Preston, to make create interdisciplinary projects alongside people living on the periphery, just post economic downturn, mapping austerity. Her personal practice plays & experiments around creative truth and lies of documentary through live&digital narratives & trans/media work. North West
