Describes a 12 month action research project undertaken collaboratively by three Scottish universities. Focussing on the ability of designer-makers across Scotland to bring their products to market (and therefore earn a living), it concludes that “small collectives” are the most practical vehicle. Amongst its outputs was a sharing of practice amongst practitioners. Although wordy, it offers some useful nuanced insights including definitions of terms, and examination of different types of collectives. Will be useful for both designer-makers, and policy/funding bodies.
