Future forecast
To mark our 25th year in 2005/06, we conducted an enquiry into the future and resources for contemporary visual artists.
The results were published in Future space (May 2005), Social space (August 2005), Curated space (November 2005), Outer space (February 2006) and Outcomes and issues (June 2006). The publications and associated think-tanks raised questions and stimulated and focused discussions on the pros and cons of future support frameworks and expectations for artists. The overall aim was to keep artists' developing practice high on the agenda.
Key issues and matters arising from the Future forecast enquiry have informed our Research papers, launched in August 2006 as an ongoing series.
Series titles
Curated space
The third Future forecast publication, Curated space looks at strategies and interventions within artist-curator space. Devised and conducted by Manick Govinda, contributors include Gavin Wade, Erika Tan, Jeremy Deller and David A. Bailey.

Future space
The first Future forecast publication, Future space addresses the future roles and functions of artists' workspace. It introduces current strategies and concerns and places them in the context of artists' developing practice and critical frameworks using as a prompt recent interviews with artists and other professionals. What will artists' practice and resources be like in 2015?

Outer space
The fourth Future forecast publication, Outer space investigates the interface between artists' practice and the socio-political domain. Devised and edited by Esther Salamon, contributors include Chris Batt MLA, Paul Collard Creative Partnerships, Jonathan Davis CABE, David Lammy MP Minister for Culture, Graham Leicester International Futures Forum and Tom Shakespeare.
Social space
The second Future forecast publication, Social space addresses dynamics and divergences within artist's practice in the social realm. Guest edited by Becky Shaw with contributors including Ricardo Basbaum, Sarah Cole, Lubaina Himid, Richard Layzell, Andre Stitt and Una Walker.

Outcomes and issues
The final Future forecast publication presents an overview of this research and publishing programme's findings themed around: Identifying the 'new practices' model, Valuing peer networks, Redefining public accountability, Supporting locations and community, New 'brand image' for artists. With contributions from Manick Govinda, Mark Gubb, Rohini Malik Okon, Becky Shaw, Martin Vincent and Sara Wajid.
