Alice Karveli
Alice Karveli is originally from Athens (b. 1990), Greece but has been based in London since 2014. Graduating with a Mixed Media Fine Art BA, she works across many mediums (painting, drawing, collage, photography, installation, music and dance), though her main focus is performance, particularly through film, which she then edits to create hypnotic visions with immersive, experimental soundscapes.
In working with the body, she uses the kinaesthetic element; the sounds created by the performative actions and the expression of inner song. Materials used – whether natural (e.g. clay, ink or water) or artificial (e.g. black paint, cling film, fabric, hypodermic needles) – always bear symbolic significance in relation to the human element.
She is interested in the transformational potential of both the making and the showing of her work, by means of the symbolic processes she undertakes.
The performance pieces become personal rites facilitating esoteric work: transforming intense psychological and physical experiences (pain, constriction, entrapment, struggle, damage, etc.) into protective and creative power, exorcising fears, and integrating aspects of the shadow-self during the process of liberating the true self.
In doing so, her goal is also to create transformational rites the viewer can project upon, thus potentially instigating an analogous transformational process within themselves.
Her painting and illustration practice is a method of processing and expressing contents of inner images and intimations about the spiritual nature of life and its cycles, the connections one forms in it with others, and the ordeals one is put through by it. They are often done in a vibrant and intense color palette, as is fitting for the inescapable intensity of their content and true to the vision of their origin.
She has participated in numerous group exhibitions in Greece since 2009, in London since 2014 and Italy (2019) working with art collectives like the Random Artists TAA, The Nave, gallery Art Number 23 at The Old Biscuit Factory in London, ITSLIQUID and Artrooms Fairs in Italy.
She has had two solo exhibitions in Athens in 2013 and 2014 and one in London at The Hive Dalston social space in 2017. She is represented by Appel gallery in Athens Greece.
Beyond the realm of fine art, she is also a musician, poet and flow artist, whilst also working as a freelance tattoo artist and massage therapist.
R.M. Sánchez-Camus
Marcelo is a UK-based creative practitioner creating public works of art that uncover social narratives while giving a space for reflection. His practice incorporates community co-authorship into installation performance and text with a focus on collaboration participation psychogeography and community wellbeing. Marcelo is the co-founder and organiser of Social Art Network a UK wide association of creative professionals dedicated to socially-engaged work. He is a creative consultant on Axisweb’s Social Artery and Social Art Library (SOAL) two new online platforms dedicated to building legacy around social practice. He has extensive experience in arts & health with a focus on arts as a therapeutic intervention in death and dying.

Social Art Network is a UK based mutual aid community of artists committed to building agency for the field of art and social practice. We are a UK wide artist-led initiative developed to support creative professionals working with and dedicated to community-led projects. SAN continues to build agency for artists and communities making art through social engagement whilst developing new audiences for the work both nationally and internationally. About Art Lab: Artists’ Presentations & Critical Dialogue
First Monday evening of the month 8pm
Art Lab is a monthly meet-up for artists and art practitioners to discuss their work, concurrent ideas and critical thinking. It’s open to anyone who would like to attend and contribute constructively. Art Lab is for sharing ideas, mutual learning, peer support and networking.
The format is two presentations by artists / practitioners about their work / ideas / interests: 20-30 minute presentations followed by Q&A and an open invite to everyone to update about their work too.
Art Lab welcomes all art practitioners at any stage in their career and operates a safe space policy. Art Lab is coordinated by Halifax based artist/curator/writer Alice Bradshaw.
