‘A painting on a wall is an attitude.’ Richard Diebenkorn A wide range of powerfully expressed views of the human condition will be on display at this exhibition in which members of the Advanced Painting Workshop at Morley College will show their highly individual new work. All the painters share a passionate belief in the power of painting – of colour, texture, form and gesture to reflect on life, share an experience and express a point of view. Themes and starting points include the desire for freedom amidst everyday constraints, the nature of memory, the ephemera of contemporary events, the urban and rural landscape, the metaphoric qualities of roads and motorways, the subversion of images in the media, travels in Vietnam and the Greek Islands, history and human identity, and the forest.
