Lorna is an established artist who has also had a long career in teaching at University level. A multi-disciplinary artist, she develops her ideas through a broad range of media. Ian met Lorna 4 years ago when he gave up a long career in business to enroll on a full-time Visual Arts Degree course. Lorna taught him for a year at the beginning of his art education and has been a major influence in his work and creative development. They have remained good friends and are about to embark on their first major joint show in Manchester. The show, 6.3 x 5 (at odds) is at Piccadilly Place in Central Manchester on the 17th May 2013. “Our work is very different, both physically and conceptually.” Lorna explains, “Ian’s work is substantially larger and more colourful. His visceral, Neo-expressionistic paintings are steeped in unfamiliar narrative. My work deals with the emotional and physical context of “place” and is expressed in smaller, more intimate formats. The works of these two contemporary artists sit well together to make an original, vibrant show. Both artists are on a personal journey using very different approaches. One male, one female, two different generations.
