Gillian Mackenna’s paintings celebrate the spiritual sense of permanence she finds in big, empty landscapes and her delight in their shapes and patterns. She likes to think of them as something still. As a second generation Kenyan it is a kind of homesickness, but also a prayer for what is gradually being lost’.
