Brenda Miller’s research has focused on finding ways to connect a curiosity in the everyday to a collection of wider interests. These range from her realisation that an autobiographical content is important in her work, to marginality, minimalism and materiality. On the surface these can appear to be disparate sources.Brenda Miller has been working with Milliken’s and wool shops in the area. The exhibition at SVA is an opportunity to see this work close to where it was inspired and the first time for those featured to see images on show. The project with Milliken’s evolved into short films set in their factory in Cam. One has been selected and shown in several venues around the country. While working on these, Brenda was distracted by a sign in the wool shop in Wotton saying that it was closing due to retirement. This sparked a desire to talk and meet people working in other wool shops in the area. Eventually a series of knitted images of women was produced.
