Andrew Livingstone is Subject Leader in Ceramics at the University of Sunderland and an artist with an international reputation for exploring the meanings to be found in combining hand-crafted ceramics with found objects, performance and new technologies. Over the past year, the artist has been studying and documenting the Williamson collection of porcelain to ask the question ‘What might it look like now?’ From his research, Livingstone has created an exciting new body of work which uses formal and narrative elements of the collection to reflect back upon contemporary society, to explore the value attributed to objects and to examine the demise of the ceramic industry in the UK. Using film, electronic media and installation, the artist will literally animate the ordinarily static fired clay object. Parallax View promises to provide a fresh perspective on Tullie House’s porcelain collection and to shatter all preconceptions of ceramic exhibitions.
