Artcore Gallery is delighted to announce our Graduate Residency Exhibition, featuring five of the most talented Fine Art graduates of 2019, who are artists in residence at the gallery throughout January, and will be exhibiting what they have created.

The residency will take place in the Artcore’s gallery space in the heart of Derby. Artcore is supporting the artists to develop into the next generation of professional creatives in the region through small group and individual mentoring and training, giving them the skills and knowledge they will need to succeed in the art world. Working in partnership with University of Derby and other East Midlands universities, the exhibition will provide a platform to bridge the transition from University to arts professional.

The artists have a range of different focuses and media within their art practices, showcasing the creativity of regional artists. Jenny Bramley creates site-specific interventions using simple processes and inexpensive materials; The space, walls and/or other surfaces determine the work created. The process is modified to fit the space. Rachel Phillips is motivated by current environmental issues, creating original collages that explore the tactility and range of aesthetic qualities found in consumer plastics. the disposable materials are collected and elevated into the field of fine art to reframe its context and dislocate a viewer’s perception.

Sinead Kerr is interested in how the creative process negotiates space, light, architectural boundaries or obstacles in a space. Theodora Prassa uses everyday life materials in a multidimensional way that opens to different interpretations, creating a dialogue between the viewer and the work. Thomas Wynne’s artistic practice is primarily focused on the themes of truth and veracity of the photographic medium through the conceptual representation of landscape with particular reference to the presence of both the photographer and the viewer.

Join us to celebrate the up-and-coming creative talent in the East Midlands. The opening night will provide an opportunity to meet the artists, and gain an insight into the methodologies they are exploring.
