Annie Porteous-Butler

I studied Art at Colchester Institute in the late 80's but haven't really done anything serious with my art. I am a practising Counsellor who suffers from a condition which limits the number of hours I can work. Like many sufferers of chronic illness, I find creativity contributes to my emotional well-being. The creative spark was reignited when I married my soulmate, the artist Peter Porteous-Butler. My passion for reclaiming and repurposing comes from a firmly held belief that we should protect our planet by avoiding buying new, and that recycling should be the final choice not the first. Now sharing a studio space with my husband, I am a self-proclaimed hoarder of anything I think can be reused and have a particular fondness for vintage crockery, sheet music and fabric. I started creating artwork in 2024 specifically for an exhibition alongside my husband and am continuing to explore my stock-pile of junk, developing a style that is all my own in my mixed media collages.
