Between Air, Clay and Woods of Certain Flutes is an immersive audio-visual dream space that merges musical instruments with forest. Our installation creates a space for flutes and recorders to reunite with the source of the material that made them. Sounds of the woods combine with fluted musical instruments to create an ever-changing dialogue between audio, image and you, the visitor to this space.
Throughout history, people have created musical instruments from wood and clay that produce sound when played and are awakened by the musician’s breath. Our installation pays tribute to these materials by recalling their origin in the valuable living woods.
Our installation includes two electroacoustic flute compositions, the sounds of flute manufacturing, and a Mayan poem blended with the forest’s natural sounds. Each track is a different length and is looped to repeat out of sequence with each other constantly.
