This summer The Royal British Society of Sculptors will host an exhibition of works created by the 2009 winners of The Brian Mercer Charitable Trust Residencies. Two talented sculptors were selected from the RBS membership to spend 3 months developing their skills with the support and guidance of world renowned artisans in Pietrasanta, Tuscany. Immanuel Klein ARBS was awarded the Brian Mercer Stone Residency at Fondazione Sem and Briony Marshall ARBS was awarded the Brian Mercer Bronze Residency at Fonderia Mariani. “Working at Studio Sem, next to these fabulous and amazingly modest artisans who embody centuries of craftsmanship, feels like an honour every day.” Immanuel Klein ARBS “Three months of intense and undisturbed work…enabled me to explore the role of intuition in my practice. I enjoyed… experimenting with the material and the knowledge that the final sculpture would be in bronze allowed me to create thin complex and precarious structures impossible in other media” Briony Marshall ARBS
