Byam Shaw was an independent art school for nearly 100 years, joining Central Saint Martins in 2003. James Dyson, Yinka Shonibare, Mona Hatoum? Byam Shaw alumni. The FdA is a 2 year undergrad degree programme in Fine Art Skills and Practices. Among our students are graduates and professionals from other fields, retraining in fine art (a maths major from Cambridge, a history major from Oxford, a well-established professional photographer, a well-established graffiti artist, a former actor, and in former years, a doctor, even a professional clown.) Students go on to do the 3rd year BA at Byam, or elsewhere, and some are offered MA's instead. Amid this year's crop of talent from the FdA alone, 6 are going onto finish their BA at Byam, a few at CSM, a couple at Wimbledon and Camberwell, and some are going outside the UAL network to complete their BA's, with one going directly on to do an MA. Names to watch (in no particular order): Alex Farto, Anastasia Orlando Berger, Karl Grady, Daniela Huerta, Alexander Juskans, Andy Porritt, Billy Vincent Byrne, Emily Norris, Helen Russell, Gisel Nzolameso, Alison Thomas, Joyce McCluskey, Rebecca Harris, June Singanew, Laza Kassim, Leonora Ainstrup, Rosa Zhyan, Gioia Bini, Declan Jenkins, Eldi Dundee. A limited edition boxed set of original prints by our students is on sale now.
