CAOS COMES TO CARSHALTON

The inaugural Carshalton Artists Open Studios (CAOS) festival takes over Carshalton in June and July this year.

CAOS will celebrate the rich diversity of cultural activities in Carshalton, with over thirty artists exhibiting in over fifteen locations. This exciting event will bring to the community original exhibitions, engaging demonstrations and free workshops. The CAOS festival will take audiences on a journey of discovery, encouraging them to visit Carshalton’s astonishing array of talented artists, heritage centres, historical buildings, places of outstanding natural beauty and vibrant galleries.

CAOS brings together a highly talented community of artists, from a rich diversity of backgrounds, using a wide range of artistic expression and includes artists that have exhibited at the prestigious RA Summer Show and Mall Galleries. Neal and Helena Vaughan (Festival organisers) explain, “this amazing festival will engage people in the community and beyond, drawing them into the area to experience the hugely talented artists, vibrant community and breath taking cultural heritage Carshalton has to offer.”

Artist led workshops will be conducted by experienced practitioners at many of the CAOS locations. Two key local venues; Corner Gallery, Carshalton Beeches and Honeywood Museum, Carshalton will also open their doors to welcome active participation in exhibitions and workshops aimed at children and families. The Corner Gallery will have a festival atmosphere, hosting artists and free workshops led by Squirrels, a local community scrap scheme; while Honeywood Museum will curate an exhibition of work from the Borough’s Museum Collection looking at Carshalton Village, a special place which has drawn artists to it over time.

The organisers go on to say “we plan to establish this as an annual event that will increasingly benefit the community and local heritage centres. Our aim is to refresh community spirits through regular creative interaction”. The Festival will run over the weekends of June 24th and 25th and July 1st and 2nd 2017 and more details, with trail maps can be found at: www.carshaltonartists.com.
