This month we’re very pleased to welcome artist, curator and project director, Cathryn Kemp who will be talking to us about Telling Stories, her successful project which includes a touring exhibition with events, workshops and performance. The first exhibition, Telling Stories: Margate took place in 2011, and Telling Stories: Hastings is currently showing at Hastings Museum & Art Gallery until January 2013. Cathryn says: “I am interested in the role of artists as storytellers – and how their stories, once shared and expressed, can become part of a wider collective consciousness; becoming part of the viewers’ experience and personal narrative. I curated the artists in both shows – not the actual artworks, which involved a creative and instinctual process of trust. This element of the unknown became as much a part of both shows as the artists themselves and the viewing public.” Cathryn will talk about all facets of creating – and delivering an arts-based project, including applying for funding, curating artists from Kent and Sussex, the process of organising and evaluating the events and her ambitions for its future development.
