Charles Long writes: I am concerned about depicting landscape from a deep fascination with its elemental nature. Objects and their fragmental state found within our environment make a profound impact upon me, and “nature in the raw” – erosion from wind & rain, sun & heat is the stuff of my paintings. This is coupled with an abiding interest in structure, both natural and man -made. I believe they can be complementary. The two other elements in my work are that of reflection & refraction – these are an abiding passion. It is the illusory quality which occurs when I try to ‘disrupt’ the picture plane, yet retain the integrity of my image making.
