This month Eastbourne artist and lecturer at Sussex Downs College, Amanda Champness-Kent will be talking to us about Dis-location, her gallery with no fixed abode. Each year Amanda seeks out a vacant space to take over as a gallery space to showcase contemporary Fine Art and Photography by a variety of participating artists. Sometimes only lasting for a matter of hours, each show is unique but governed by an innovative theme, reflective of the work produced by its members. This year’s Dis-location takes place in September in Hastings as part of Coastal Currents festival. Amanda will be talking about the highs and lows of running a project of this nature, and will give an insight into her own essentially non-commercial practice which raises questions about the value of art, why we make art, how we measure success as an artist, and what we mean by professional. There will be time for a glass of wine and chat afterwards.
