Dominion Artist Angela Cockayne and author Philip Hoare collaborate on a filmed performance, using artwork, objects, text, and spoken word. Drawing the overarching symbol and shape of the sperm whale, Dominion will be a multilayered and allusive attempt to come to terms with a shared history between human and whale, between human history and natural history, and the liminal region in between. Dominion will incorporate Cockayne’s chimerical objects, part animal, part sculpture, with Hoare’s physical interaction with sperm whales. Angela Cockayne, who lives and works in Bath, England, has exhibited widely. She is Senior Lecturer at Bath Spa University. Desmond Morris ‘Every day nature offers us beautiful objects that we fail to appreciate because we see them only in the too-familiar context of their mundane roles. By taking them out of their usual contexts, Angela Cockayne makes us see them afresh, and in the process, creates an endearing whimisical bestiary all her own.’ ‘Philip Hoare, who lives and works in Southampton, England, is the author of six works of creative non-fiction, including Spike Island, England’s Lost Eden and, most recently, Leviathan or, The Whale, 2008 Winner of the Samuel Johnson prize 2009Link to images http://www.flickr.com/photos/angiecockayne/sets/72… http://www.angelacockayne.co.ukwww.thehuntformobydick.com
